Tweh, Capen, Blackwell, Kiboko elected to Judicial Council

Elections to Judical Council have been a main part of today’s action at General Conference.

N. Oswald Tweh Sr., a Harvard Law grad from Liberia, and Beth Capen of New York, a veteran GC delegate who grew up in rural parsonages, were elected as lay members. Ms. Capel has been on the council, and will serve a second consecutive term.

Delegates elected the Rev. J. Kabamba Kiboko of Southern Congo and the Rev. Dennis Blackwell of Greater New Jersey as clergy members. Ms. Kiboko was the first ordained clergywoman in the Southern Congo Conference and has a Ph.D. in Old Testament. Mr. Blackwell is an Asbury Seminary grad who has led Asbury UMC in Woodlynne, N.J., for 25 years.

Mr. Blackwell has been serving on the council, and, like Ms. Capen, will serve another term.
