Jessica Ireland, the General Conference delegate from Iowa who was hit by a car yesterday, appeared at the plenary session today in a wheelchair.
“It’s not a way to become famous,” she told delegates, who prayed for her last night. “I don’t recommend it.”
The Rev. Brian Milford, also of the Iowa delegation, introduced her at today’s plenary and said she had been released from the hospital and given crutches, but did not have any broken bones.
Mr. Milford noted that the driver who hit Ms. Ireland also is a General Conference delegate.
Ms. Ireland referred to that delegate in her brief remarks. “His scars and pain could last longer than mine,” she said. “I offer him all my love. …. I have no animosity. …. I’m well. I will be better very soon.”
Mr. Milford and Ms. Ireland also mentioned that in the hospital at the same time with her was a General Conference participant from North Katanga, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, who apparently waited hours and was not given treatment.
“I would like your prayers for my brother who was not given the same care,” she said.
Bishop Thomas Bickerton, who is presiding this morning, said he was trying to get facts about the situation, including the man’s name, so that delegates could pray for him by name.
