Alabama church seeks healing after shooting

GARDENDALE, Ala.—Though many feel lost in a terrible sea, members of Gardendale-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church were reminded on Jan. 13 that Jesus Christ is in the boat with them. Just days after their pastor, the Rev. Terry Greer, was accused of shooting and killing his wife and wounding his daughter, worshippers came through the doors of their church seeking comfort and answers. Volunteers change world in 1,500 places

How many United Methodists does it take to change a light bulb? Probably just one. However, when it comes to changing the world, United Methodists proved, once again, the more the merrier. On the third annual Change the World Weekend, May 19-20, United Methodists in more than 1,500 locations around the globe ventured beyond the walls of their church buildings, got involved in their communities and participated in a global push to fight malaria. It’s the time of the season for meeting

By Emily Snell, UMNS… Now that the 2012 General Conference has ended, United Methodist leaders across the nation turn to jurisdictional and annual conferences coming up this summer. The first U.S. annual conference sessions begin May 17 in the Detroit and Eastern Pennsylvania annual conferences. The annual conference meetings wrap up in the United States with the Virginia Annual Conference session June 22-24.
